Welcome to WikiProject Women in Red (WiR)! |
---|
Our objective is to turn red links into blue ones. Our project's scope is women's representation on all language Wikipedias (biographies, women's works, women's issues, broadly construed). Did you know that, according to Humaniki, only 20.13% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women? Not impressed? Content gender gap is a form of systemic bias, and this is what WiR addresses. We invite you to participate, whenever you like, in whatever way suits you and your schedule. Editors of all genders are equally and warmly welcome at Women in Red! |

[edit]Comment number one We've been preparing a list of 100 Interesting Women which aims to identify 100 ex-Women in Red. The 100 have not been finalised and we are still welcoming additions. Have a look at the list and have a look at the talk page. We know Marie Curie is'nt in the list, but have you discovered an interesting life?, a source that we have used a lot?, an editor who should be mentioned or an editathon that was amazing? The idea is not to repeat the 100 biographies but to intrigue the reader to find out more and to use them as a springboard for mentioning some of the highlights of the last ten years. Have a go... its that spirit that got us to 20%! Roger aka Victuallers (talk) 11:38, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Victuallers: Rather than suggesting additions, I would first want to say I think the table needs a better format. It's quite hard to read due to the way it compresses the Notability section into a long, thin column, and leaving the rest largely empty. We could probably merge the picture, name and "is a" columns into one. Grnrchst (talk) 17:59, 25 June 2025 (UTC)
- Have a go @Grnrchst:! The original aim was to create a book. I was hoping we'd find someone with expertise in formatting. Merge "the picture, name and "is a" columns into on"e should be possible by using format instructions. using By all means - take a copy and try out your ideas. We have time! its meant to be ready by August (July 18 would be nice). I'm particularly keen on creating an index. I was thinking we might have to move the content to HTML. Victuallers (talk) 18:43, 25 June 2025 (UTC) Can move this conversation to the talk page.... we are messing up the format here. Victuallers (talk) 18:45, 25 June 2025 (UTC)

[edit]- When: July 2017 (Women in Red's 1 year anniversary) and has continued uninterrupted since then.
- First article on the Outcomes list: Maren Michelet.
- Why this one: This event was the seed of an idea that an editathon on a single topic (women's biographies) can take place any day, everyday, anywhere, everywhere, lasting to infinity and beyond, with no grant/money, no staff support, and be successful if a group of volunteers are committed to its value.

- When: April 2020
- First article on the Outcomes list: Sevil Novruzova
- Why this one: I remember this being the first Women in Red event where I really got what was going on. I'd hardly heard of any of these places and it really got me thinking about geographical under-representation (which I continue to be passionate about changing, along with so many friends here!
